I met Chris this past year on the sand, corbina fly fishing and we instantly became friends having both worked in the movie industry. Chris is a very talented CGI developer that has worked on many fun projects such as Tron: Legacy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, iRobot and Maleficent to name a few. We chatted about film, design and fly fishing…hope you enjoy!

This is a film everyone who loves the great outdoors and wild places should watch. We need to all feel we can make a difference by fighting for the things in life that are most important, together we CAN move mountains.
What a great historic photograph! This photo was taken November 10, 1927 off a party boat out of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn where I grew up as a child. I graduated Sheepshead Bay High school, where I first joined the Striped Bass fishing club, took marine biology and oceanography as electives and spent many days fishing the piers and party boats. It was a great place to grow up and eat fresh seafood.
Sheepshead Bay was once home to the largest commercial party boat fleet in the world and only a train ride south from the bustling populated borough of Manhattan. It was very common in the winter months to bottom fish and catch cod, pollack, blackfish, seabass and ling on a 1/2 day boat. The gentleman holding up the double is the “Bambino”, aka Babe Ruth and his fishing partner to his right is the Iron Horse, or great Yankee first basemen, Lou Gehrig who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees. The Babe loved to fish as much as he loved to hit the long ball. How cool would it have been to run into these guys on a fishing trip. LOL

The books should be here the middle of next month and will ship as soon as they arrive. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing, designing, illustrating, photographing and fishing over twenty years for these crazy fish up and down our California beaches. – Al Q
The conscious choice to fly fish, as opposed to other, often more productive methods, is generally made by way of entering a fraternity of fishers who choose to find places and ways to more closely approach the natural world…to challenge themselves and to employ methods more artful, than “catchfull.” Add sight fishing for a super elusive species, like corbina, to the mix, and you enter a realm known only to a few stalwarts…Al Quattrocchi has stepped up to the task of walking you through that world. You should join him; I certainly shall. – Flip Pallot
Little do beachgoers know the elusive corbina swims at their ankles, all the while keeping a sharp eye out for Al Q. This is the definitive book on saltwater sight fishing in Southern California. – Jimmy Kimmel
Fishing in saltwater poses many challenges as we all know, but when it comes to fishing in the surf for corbina the challenges are far greater. If there is an angler that could simplify these challenges, Al Q is the one. He has been fishing for corbina for many years with excellent results. – Enrico Puglisi
We all should feel fortunate that Al Q has shared his years of knowledge targeting these great West Coast game fish. Al Q is one of fly fishing giants! From his innovative fly designs to his straight forward narrative, this book is a must read for all fly anglers. Thanks Al Q, for making all of us better fly fishermen. – Capt. Conway Bowman
If you ever wondered why corbina are so skittish in shallow water, this will paint a better picture for you from the corbina’s perspective. Back in the day they had to worry about aerial assaults and land assaults from grizzly bears. This fear gene is seated in deep their DNA, so don’t feel bad the next time you wave your fly rod too close and one explodes 10 yards away from the sudden movement, it’s all part of this crazy game. Thanks to Mike Burke for sharing this fun video!
