Blocks of granite lay along Gateway National Recreational Area in Fort Tilden inscribed with Walt Whitman's poetry. This is a permanent art piece by Patti Smith.

I just read this really cool article about one of the places I grew up fishing as a teenager. I remember catching my first striped bass off that bridge in the picture above, it was called the Marine Park Bridge when I was growing up. I think they since changed the name to Gill Hodges Bridge now? It crosses over from Brooklyn to the Rockaways, right at Riis Park and Fort Tilden. Check out this link to the project Patti is working on to help save the Rockaways after the damage left by Hurricane Sandy! Click Here!
