happy anglers in bean land…

The full moon minus low tide cycle, combined with warm water temps were a slam dunk for corbina sight casting on the fly this past week. The last few days were as good as I have seen it on our local beaches with lots of happy fish moving around. It’s good times in bean land, lets hope it continues through the summer.

Fantastic pics… makes me wish we had a similar fishery here on the right coast!

what part of the right coast do you live?

Hey, I live in southern New Jersey, near Atlantic City!

Sorry for the long delay in response. My notifications sometimes get lost from this account

I fished Huntington Beach State Beach Thursday and Friday during the correct tides and used the correct gray or pink Merkin with negative results. I did not see any fish at all either. I’ve been fishing Huntington and Bolsa Chica State beaches for over three years and I have seen a few corbina and had them follow with no takers. However, caught lots of barred perch and a few small halibut. I’m assuming the “right” coast may be Huntington and Bolsa Chica state beaches. Looks like the pictures were taken at the flat beaches north of Manhattan Beach and near LAX. If so, I’ll give it a try next time…

I fish lots of prime real estate from PV to Carpinteria. I do not to give specific locations, because more than fly guys follow me, and the weekend bucket brigades do lots of damage sans catch and release! Do not take it personally. I see a lot of fish this time of year, 50 shots not uncommon. I think you need to do a little scouting, sounds like it’s really slow south.

Thank-you for the fast reply. I forgot about the “bucket brigades”! I’ve been to two of your seminars and learned a great many things. Thank-you for all the advice. It helped me catch my first corbina about two or three years ago down near Newport. Hope to see you somewhere on a beach or again at one of your seminars. I’ll be doing some scouting next week as it is very slow at Huntington and Bolsa Chica.

Hi Al – I’m in Westchester as well. Do you normally fish for Corbina on the low tide? Thanks!
